Summer Reminders: Preventing Car & AC Unit Theft

PREVENTING SUMMER THEFT:
Leaving a Car Running and Unattended

Because of the heat, many people start their car to allow it to cool off or remain cool while the driver is temporarily out of the car. Car thieves look for running cars and will take the opportunity to steal the car. If passengers remain in the car; lock the doors. Don’t leave a car running and unattended.

Theft of Outdoor Air Conditioning Units

During summer months, thieves will steal outdoor air conditioning units (especially newer ones). They will take notice of vehicles that identify the owner as an air conditioning vendor and circle by the property looking for newer units or at construction sites. If possible, units should be secured in locked and fenced area.
