NOCUPP ALERT: DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR TO MAGAZINE SOLICITORS:

On Saturday March 18th, 2012 a magazine solicitor was stopped in a NOCUPP member's driveway.  The subject is working with a group called "New Entrepreneurs".  There are at least two groups, who both hire ex-cons, criminals, and people with less than desirable records to tour the country and sell magazine subscriptions. The subject stopped on Saturday had a felony warrant out of Florida, but they would not extradite. A citation for solicitation without a permit was issued.  The subject told our officer that he and the others are all "second chance" persons that get 50% of the proceeds from the sales of the subscriptions which they use for whatever they desire.  The subject had sold "7" subscriptions in East Kessler and had the money from the residents, which he was going to use to buy him some beer and a good meal. They are asking for cash or check, but preferably cash.

Information

  • Members can order a NOCUPP yard sign by emailing NOCUPP at nocpatrol@gmail.com. Our cost is $5 per sign.
  • This winter there were some minor garage break ins in Winnetka Heights.  Please be sure your garage is kept locked and secured so your garage is not targeted.  NOCUPP officers are being vigilant to prevent more of these, but you need to make sure you have the garage as secure as possible.
  • If you need an evaluation of the security vulnerabilities of your house/garage members can call the patrol officer cell phone number to schedule an appointment with the patrol officers. They can then come to your house to meet with you and give you custom advice on making your home less inviting to criminals.
  • We are always seeking volunteers for help. Email NOCUPP if you would like to help us with updating membership information and property information sheets, being a neighborhood representative, marketing, etc.
  • If you would like to mark your valuables with your drivers license number, the NOCUPP officers have a special pen they loan out to members for this so that the markings are invisible except under ultra violet lights (which pawn shops have). Call the patrol cell number and they can bring you the pen and give you tips on marking your valuables and keeping an inventory.
